Capturing the Science

Cerebrus Digital supported the 2025 British Society for Genetic Medicine (BSGM) Annual Conference, working seamlessly alongside the event’s in-house audiovisual team to capture the scientific programme and transform a single day of presentations and discussions into a lasting collection of digital content.

Scientific conferences bring together considerable expertise, research and professional knowledge. However, the value of these events need not be limited to the delegates attending on the day. With effective video production and post-event distribution, conference presentations can continue to inform, educate and engage professional communities long after the event has finished.

For the 2025 BSGM Annual Conference, Cerebrus Digital was responsible for capturing the scientific presentations and producing a comprehensive collection of recordings for onward dissemination to delegates and society members.

Working seamlessly with the in-house AV team

A key element of the project was ensuring that our video production activities integrated smoothly with the conference’s existing audiovisual arrangements.

Rather than introducing a competing technical operation, Cerebrus Digital worked closely with the in-house AV team, coordinating technical requirements and production workflows in advance of the event.

This included pre-event liaison to establish how our recording equipment and requirements would fit alongside the existing AV infrastructure, allowing both teams to concentrate on their respective responsibilities.

Our objective was simple: arrive fully prepared, work collaboratively with the people already delivering the event, and get the job done with the minimum additional effort for the conference organising team.

This approach is particularly important for scientific societies, where conference organisers already have considerable responsibilities relating to speakers, delegates, scientific programmes and event logistics.

By taking ownership of our production requirements and resolving technical arrangements in advance, we were able to provide a professional recording service without adding unnecessary complexity to the event.

One conference day, 34 finished videos

The one-day conference generated a substantial collection of content, which Cerebrus Digital edited into individual videos suitable for a range of audiences and distribution channels.

Our post-production deliverables included:

  • 24 individual presentation videos, allowing delegates and society members to revisit specific scientific sessions.

  • Two conference summary videos, produced in long and short formats to provide different ways of showcasing the event.

  • Eight filmed interviews, providing additional perspectives and content suitable for social media.

  • Subtitled versions of all eight interviews, with captions permanently incorporated into the videos for convenient viewing across social platforms.

In total, the project delivered 34 individual video productions, plus eight additional subtitled versions.

Separating the scientific programme into individual presentation files provides significant benefits over distributing a single continuous conference recording. Delegates can locate presentations of particular interest, society members can access content they were unable to attend, and individual recordings can be referenced or shared as part of continuing professional development.

The interviews and conference summaries provide an additional dimension, creating shorter, engaging content that can promote the society’s activities and extend the conference’s visibility through social media.

Creating an enduring digital resource

The production process does not end when the video editing is complete.

For BSGM, an important part of the service is ensuring that the resulting material can be organised, managed and distributed effectively.

Cerebrus Digital uses Vimeo as a professional video hosting and distribution platform, enabling recordings to be organised into curated collections, shared with appropriate audiences and embedded within society websites.

This supports a more structured approach to scientific content management, helping professional organisations retain the long-term value of their conferences while controlling how and where recordings are made available.

It also provides a foundation for building extensive video libraries that grow with successive conferences and professional-development activities.

A production partner that makes things easier

The 2025 BSGM Annual Conference demonstrates an approach that is central to Cerebrus Digital’s work with learned societies and scientific organisations.

Our role is not simply to provide cameras and recording equipment. It is to understand the scientific event, collaborate with existing technical teams, anticipate production requirements and deliver high-quality content without placing additional demands on busy organisers.

From advance technical liaison and on-site recording through to individual presentation edits, conference summaries, social media interviews and content distribution, the aim is to provide a dependable, end-to-end service.

For conference organisers, successful video production should be something that happens smoothly in the background. For society members, the result should be a valuable collection of scientific knowledge that remains accessible long after the conference has ended.

That is the approach Cerebrus Digital brought to the 2025 BSGM Annual Conference.
